Joseph M. Downes III is an associate with the Firm. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Downes practiced in the litigation and bankruptcy departments of Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP in Boston.
Mr. Downes focuses his practice on bankruptcy, creditors’ rights and general commercial litigation. He has extensive experience representing a broad range of clients in all aspects of bankruptcy — including creditors’ committees, trustees, insurers, software companies and banks in debtor-in-possession financing and cash collateral matters. He has led the prosecution and/or defense of hundreds of avoidance actions, and has significant trial experience with commercial litigation matters.
Mr. Downes earned his bachelor’s degree from Providence College in 1994. He graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 2002, where he served as a contributing editor for the Journal of Law Reform.
Mr. Downes is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He is a member of the Boston Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
Mr. Downes lives with his wife and three children in Melrose, Massachusetts.
